AFS Projects

In addition to its work on publications, annual meeting, prizes and awards, and interest-group activities, the AFS carries out projects as a way to increase public understanding of the field, to support the work of Society members and their home organizations, and to build partnerships with other organizations.

Our current and recent special projects help us reach several of our most important goals:

1. They support organizations in our field and folklorists' professional development.

Consultancy and Professional Development Program

2. They enable folklorists to serve communities throughout the US.

Veterans History Project

3. They connect the work of folklorists to the development, implementation, and evaluation of public policy.

China-US Folklore and Intangible Cultural Heritage Project

Folklore and Health Policy Working Group

4. They support the collaborative development of research tools and teaching strategies in folklore studies.

Big Questions and the Disciplines Project

James Madison Carpenter Collection Project

Civil Rights Oral History Survey

5. They connect US-based folklorists, academic programs, and public folklore organizations with those abroad.

China-US Folklore and Intangible Cultural Heritage Project
