2017 AFS Annual Meeting: Program Addendum

Changes that have been received since we printed the program addendum are highlighted in red.

New feature: The program includes paper presentations in both 15-minute and 30-minute blocks, sometimes within a single session; take note of the start times assigned to each paper, since the duration of papers in any given session may vary.

Food options for lunchtime business meetings:

1) The Minneapolis Marriott City Center is on the extensive Minneapolis Skyway system, which provides a wide variety of take-away lunch options. Many Skyway businesses close on Saturday, so plan ahead if you have a a business meeting that day.

2) The Marriott will offer grab-and-go lunchboxes in the Atrium, $15 inclusive. The lunchbox includes a beverage, chips, whole fruit, cookie and selection of one of the following:

  • Turkey and Swiss Sandwich, Lettuce, Tomato
  • Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad: Organic Greens Salad, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, hard cooked egg, cheddar cheese

The hotel also offers "Fresh Bites," which allows you to order a take-away lunch ahead of time; the Marriot has provided this information:

Fresh Bites combines fresh ingredients, local flavor, and fast service with pick-up or guestroom delivery options. You can find the Fresh Bites menu in your guestroom or at our hotel lobby restaurant. Simply place your order (over the phone if in your guestroom, or in person if at the restaurant) and we will have it ready for you in minutes, or order ahead for pick up at the restaurant at the time that best suits you. Each order comes bagged with all food in conveniently packaged containers for an easy meal wherever you eat.

Please note these errors in the printed program book:

p. 10, Plenary Sessions: The time of the Presidential Address is incorrect. A Time of Remembrance starts at 4:15 pm, followed immediately by the AFS Business Meeting, then the Presidential Address at 6:00 pm.

p. 75: "Resistance, Reclamation and Re-Creation in Minnesota Native American Women’s Storytelling" is in Ballroom 1/2, not Deer Lake.

The "AFS Freelance Academic and Public Employment Committee" named in the program book is now the "AFS Committee on Contingent Workforce Concerns."

Jeff Todd Titon's Yoder lecture on Friday concerns "eco-justice," not "ecojustice."
