Each of the candidates put forward by the AFS Nominating Committee (the members of which are Suzy Seriff, chair, Christina Barr, Amy Skillman, and Stephen Winick) has provided a summary professional biography for voters' information.

In addition, each candidate has provided a written answer to the question "What are the most significant opportunities or challenges now facing the Society, and how as a member of the [Executive Board / Nominating Committee] would you respond to those opportunities or challenges?".

Please click on the candidates' names below to read the information they have submitted.

Note: One of the Nominating Committee's six original Executive Board candidates has withdrawn from this year’s election process.

Solimar Otero, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge

Nominating Committee

Sally Van de Water, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland

[Note: Presidential elections take place only in even-numbered years.]

We have invited all candidates to participate in a Candidates' Forum on Saturday afternoon of the Bloomington annual meeting, and we invite all Society members who will be at the meeting to attend and hear the candidates speak. Secure online voting will begin around November 1 and will continue through December 31. Those elected will take office on January 1, 2012, and will serve on the Board or Nominating Committee through 2014.
