Dear Folklore Professionals,

Our students, recent graduates, and new professionals need you! Your knowledge of the field, expertise in various areas of folklore, and valuable time are wanted. The Mentoring Committee is seeking mentors for the 2018 AFS Annual Meeting in Buffalo, NY.

We recognize how much everyone looks forward to attending the annual meeting and reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. The Mentoring Committee invites you to spend a few rewarding hours with a student, recent graduate, or new professional mentee during the meeting.

Mentees and their mentors spend a minimum of a half-day together (the time you will spend together does not have to be only one day, it could be divided throughout the conference) during the meeting to make connections and exchange ideas. Proposed activities are at the mentor’s discretion, but potentially include attending meeting sessions together; a breakfast, coffee, or lunch date; introductions and conversations with other scholars the mentor knows; discussion of the mentee’s goals and interests; and personalized advice about the field. In addition, mentees are encouraged to stay in touch with their mentors as a resource beyond the meeting.

Please take the next step and volunteer to serve as a mentor during the AFS 2018 Annual Meeting. Your participation will be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please take a moment to register with the Mentoring Committee by contacting Guillermo de los Reyes at jdelosreyes@uh.edu or Wanda G. Addison at w.g.addison@gmail.com.

Cordially,

AFS Mentoring Committee
