The Center of Excellence for Appalachian Studies and Services at East Tennessee State University invites applications for Director of the Archives of Appalachia. This position is responsible to the Center Director for facilitating the continuing development of the archives as it seeks innovative opportunities, integrates new resources and technologies, collaborates with university units, and cultivates a vibrant research and learning community; for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plans, goals, and objectives that further the mission of the Archives of Appalachia and the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services; and for performing other related duties as assigned.

Housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Center was founded in 1984 and includes the Regional Resources Institute, the Reece Museum, and the Archives of Appalachia. The Archives maintains one of the world’s leading collections of materials related to the history and culture of the Appalachian region. The Center is associated with the Department of Appalachian Studies, the only full academic department in this field, which includes undergraduate minors; graduate programs in Appalachian Studies; a program in Appalachian, Scottish, and Irish Studies; as well as the world’s first baccalaureate program in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies.ETSUis located in the Tri-Cities region of the beautiful southern Appalachian mountains, ideally located to promote study and service in the region.
