Many Presenters Will Experiment with Alternative Formats at 2016 AFS/ISFNR Joint Meeting

In February, we called for presenters to try a new, short paper presentation option, and many of you answered the call. This year, almost half of the 250 people who submitted individual paper proposals indicated that they preferred or were willing to give 10-minute presentations, rather than our customary 20-minute papers. The program committee assigned 70 of these to short paper time slots (20 minutes instead of 30), choosing those that could best be grouped to form conversations of five or more papers.

Meeting participants should stay alert to the time slots assigned to individual presentations in the schedule for the 2016 AFS/ISFNR Joint Meeting, since papers aren't all in 30-minute increments as has been the norm in the past.

We hope that this new alternative lives up to its promise of providing presenters more feedback on well-defined issues in their work, panelists the benefit of a wider range of perspectives on themes of mutual interest, audience members with variety and focus, and all meeting-goers with the advantages of including more presenters without expanding the number of concurrent sessions or conference days. We look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions concerning this option after the Miami meeting.
