The Western Folklife Center is accepting applications from poets, musicians, storytellers, etc. for the 33rd National Cowboy Poetry Gathering (Jan 30- Feb 4, 2017, in Elko, NV).

If you know artists that would like to be considered, please encourage them to apply by March 31. Application and instructions are available via the Western Folklife Center’s website:

or just to make it easy!

The theme for 2017 is storytelling (“First-Person West”). This theme highlights the importance of telling personal stories from the rural west using different media and modes of storytelling (prose, video, poetry, music, blogging, etc.) Please know that this is just a small part of the larger Gathering, which still has cowboy poetry and music at its core. Story and prose sessions have always been woven into the programming – in 2017 this will be given more attention.

The Western Folklife Center is happy to assist with any questions about the application process, deadline, or theme.

Also, the Center is always looking for good bands/musicians year-round, particularly dance bands. If you think someone would be a good fit, please email
