Museum Manager Internship Available at Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts

The Division of Arts and Museums is currently seeking an intern to manage the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts on a part-time basis, not to exceed a six-month period. The selected intern will oversee daily operations of the museum, including opening and closing procedures and staffing the reception desk. In addition to daily operations, the intern will assist with exhibition planning and installation, conduct research as relevant to the history of the Chase Home, supplement existing educational materials, and manage the social media presence for the museum.  

Anticipated responsibilities include:
  • Opening and closing the museum
  • Exhibition development, installation, and de-installation 
  • Audience evaluation as needed
  • Improving educational materials
  • Promote hosted workshops and events
  • Scheduling and leading tours of the museum
  • Chase Home historical research
  • Social media monitoring
  • Community outreach to surrounding residential area, broader Salt Lake City area, and to communities around the state of Utah

Qualifications: Required education level: B.A. in a humanities-based field

The Chase Home Museum is seeking candidates with strong interest in working in a community-based museum with previously demonstrated museum experience. Prior training or experience in folklife or community arts programs is useful but not mandatory. The Museum expects candidates to have an investment in promoting diverse cultural heritage and comfort with working with living artists. The Museum is interested in individuals with strong interpersonal skills who provide excellent written and verbal communication. Candidates should be self-motivated and expect to work independently. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing practical museum skills while taking on a leadership role.  

The incumbent is expected to work 20 hours a week, with Monday through Friday availability through Summer 2016. This is a paid, hourly position. 

The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, a historic house museum, is located in the center of Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. The museum is an active space that features folk art by Utah artists. More information here:
