The North Carolina Arts Council is now hiring for the position of Creative Economies Director. The Creative Economies Initiatives Director is responsible for the development and management of programs that stimulate arts driven economic development for communities across the state. The director's primary responsibility is to manage the SmART Initiative, a pilot program created to demonstrate how the arts transform downtowns and fuel sustainable economic development. The Director oversees the agency's Folklife Program and supervises the work of its program director, which includes managing a statewide afterschool traditional arts program, a grants program and several cultural tourism trails. The position also oversees the state's public art collection and one to two additional public art related projects. The Director collaborates with divisions within DNCR and other state agencies, especially Transportation and Commerce. The Director seeks additional funding for the SmART Initiative through federal and foundation grants and private sector contributions. This position is part of the agency's senior management team.

Graduation from a four-year college or university preferably with a degree in art or arts administration and four years of experience directly related to creative placemaking, public art, visual arts or community arts development, three of which must have been in an administrative capacity. A master's degree and five to seven years of experience is preferred.
