This is a great small museum much visited by tourists, with educational and research productivity and a mission to keep ''whale watchers" from loving the local orcas to death, among other things. It would be terrific to have a folklorist there. and "remote island" is a misnomer- it just doesn't have a bridge to the mainland, that's all. Friday Harbor, where it's located, is the county seat and a busy small town with a sizable public marina as well as ferries, planes, etc, and a US customs port on the way to Vancouver Island (British Columbia) . Lots of interesting local history and prehistory, a busy oceanographic lab (University of Washington) and more.
