ZUMIX, a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award-winning East Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and building community through music and the arts, was recently awarded a Low Power FM license to expand community media by transitioning from online to a broadcast radio station in 2016.

The Youth & Community Radio VISTA will serve by leading multiple initiatives, in collaboration with ZUMIX's Radio Coordinator, to develop the capacity for the future broadcast station in the following ways:

  • Develop a volunteer program for ZUMIX Radio, recruiting and managing approximately 50 youth and adult volunteers through a Radio Advisory Board and youth mentorship program.
  • Facilitate ZUMIX Radio's Youth Advisory Council, developing curriculum for approximately 10 youth to engage in decision-making around programming and outreach for the station.
  • Develop capacity at East Boston High School for a future radio station, working with school officials, teachers, and students to plan curriculum for radio programming at the school.
  • Develop new curriculum for youth and adult DJ training with an emphasis on creating broadcast radio content relevant to our local community.
