Jean Ritchie Passes Away at 92

Musician, activist, and scholar Jean Ritchie passed away Monday, June 1, at her home in Berea, Kentucky. Ritchie was named a National Heritage Fellow in 2002, and is credited with generating interest in Appalachian music as a part of the Greenwich Village folk revival, popularizing the dulcimer, and helping to establish the National Endowment for the Arts.
