E. Ojo Arewa (1936–2015)

Former Ohio State University anthropologist and folklorist E. Ojo Arewa passed away at age 79 in Chicago on March 11, 2015.

Born in Nigeria, Arewa received his PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied with Alan Dundes. Among Arewa's publications are one cowritten with Dundes, "Proverbs and the Ethnography of Speaking Folklore," published in American Anthropologist 66:6 (1964), 70-85.

Arewa served on the faculty of Ohio State's Department of Anthropology for more than two decades, teaching courses on African cultures and folklore.
