Dr. Robert "Roby" Cogswell, director of the folklife program at the Tennessee Arts Commission and winner of the American Folklore Society's 2014 Benjamin A. Botkin Prize for significant lifetime achievement in public folklore, is the feature of a recent article in The East Nashvillian magazine. The piece relates Cogswell's discovering folk music on AM radio as a child in Tennessee and gives account of the results—a journey taking him through East Nashville's bluegrass scene and the academic world on his way to becoming a self-proclaimed "professional Tennessean."
