2014 Sue Samuelson Foodways Student Essay Prize Awarded

The Foodways Section announces the winners of the 2014 Sue Samuelson Foodways Student Essay Prize:

1st Place ($200) goes to Adrienne Rose Johnson (Stanford University), for her paper, "Poisoning the Gingerbread Paradise: A Folkloric Interpretation of an American Domestic.”

2nd Place ($100) goes to Laura Sanchini (Memorial University), for her paper "‘I’ve been to Italy and they don’t do this’: Invented Tradition, Gendered Space and Immigrant Identity in Montreal Italian Foodways.”

Two Honorable Mentions were also awarded to Lacey Michelle Cornell (Western Kentucky University) for "How Susan Got Her Groove Back: Making Art with Iced Cream” and Diana Limbach Lempel (Harvard University) for "The Food Is Not the Only Thing.”
