AS220 has become one of the leading international models for arts-based non-profits. The organization started as a marginal institution and has grown into a multi-faceted model for community and economic development. Its egalitarian, unjuried, uncensored and transparent philosophy continues to attract the attention of business and political leaders resulting in on going financial and other support. A visit to the AS220 facilities (two locations within walking distance of each other and from the Omni Hotel) will generate questions and ideas about structural models, support systems for artists and youth, artistic forums, affordable housing and urban development. In addition to housing several workshops in a variety of art forms, AS220 is also home and/or studio space to many artists in our midst. Besides residential and studio spaces, AS220 also features a gallery, performance spaces (including a theatre incubator) and a bar/restaurant worth visiting! AS220 has received international notoriety. Its mission statement starts with "We, the people of Rhode Island,” which tells it all! For more, see

AS220 founder and artistic director, Bert Crenca, will take part in a forum, Thursday, 2:00--4:00 pm, on "Cultural Sustainability: Successful Organizational Models," then offer a closer look at AS220 in a guided, two-hour tour. Preregistration is required for the tour, and closes September 30; sign up at
