Further explanation of how we interpret our policy on the number of presentations by individuals at our annual meeting has been added to our Annual Meeting Policy page.

The statement now reads as follows:

You may present only once at the annual meeting. Exceptions will be made only for those who will serve as chair for one other paper or Diamond session, or those who are invited by AFS to present in the service of an AFS project. No one may participate in more than two sessions altogether.

In years past, participants were allowed to participate in two Forums, or to present a paper and participate in a Forum. As of 2013, this will not be the case. Any role in a Forum is to be understood as comparable to presenting a paper, not chairing a panel.

The spirit of the rule change this year was to limit everyone's participation to one session, with an exception only for those who are called on to facilitate someone else's participation, as in the case of a professor who chairs a session of student presenters, or someone who acts as chair in order to serve as translator. As noted, we also make exceptions for those who we have invited to present in the service of AFS projects.

Our earlier statement this year allowed an exception for "chairs or discussants." For 2013, we are allowing for participants to serve as a paper or Diamond session discussant, as well as to present in another session; for 2014, we will remove the exception for discussants.
