The AFS Executive Board has elected Maria Carmen Gambliel of the Idaho Commission on the Arts in Boise to serve on the Board from 2013 through 2015. She will join the Board at its next meeting in Columbus, Ohio, in April 2013.

In 2006, the AFS membership approved an amendment to the AFS Bylaws that gave the Board the authority to appoint one member to the Board every three years for a three-year term (the same as that for other Board members) in order to ensure broad representation on the Board. Since that time, Olga Nájera-Ramírez of the University of California, Santa Cruz and Marilyn White of Kean University have served as active and engaged members of the Board as a result of this provision.

Gambliel received a BFA from the Fundação Escola Guignard of Fine Arts in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and an MA and MFA from the Department of Art and Art History of the University of New Mexico. She has directed the Idaho Commission on the Arts's Folk and Traditional Arts Program since 1998. Her many previous professional experiences include directing the El Consejo de Las Artes Hispanas program for the Doña Ana Arts Council of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and serving on the planning committee, and as first Board vice-president, of the Hispanic Cultural Center of Idaho.
