NALAC Fund for the Arts Offers Grants for Latino Arts Organizations, Artists and Ensembles

Launched in 2005 by the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures with major support from the Ford Foundation, the NALAC Fund for the Arts (NFA) provides a variety of grants to assist US-based Latino artists and arts organizations in the development, creation, presentation and sustainability of artistic excellence, as well as the opportunity to participate in activities that contribute to professional and organizational growth.

The NFA is a national grant program open to US-based Latino working artists, ensembles and small to mid-sized Latino arts organizations that demonstrate artistic excellence in pursuit of social justice through the arts. To date, the NFA has awarded over one million dollars to a diverse range of artists and organizations representing every discipline and region of the country.

Applying to the NFA is a benefit of NALAC Membership. Applications will be accepted through January 24, 2013.

NFA Grants for Latino Arts Organizations

Project Grant $1,000 to $10,000 

The NFA Project Grant supports project-related costs that allow for the creation and presentation of artistic works; professional development; and organizational capacity building initiatives.

General Operating Support $1,000 to $10,000

The NFA Organization General Operating Support Grant provides funding to support general operating expenses for nonprofit arts organizations.

Festival $1,000 to $10,000

The NFA Organization Festival Grant supports festival related costs assisting organizations in providing quality arts programming to communities.

NFA Grants for Latino Artists and Ensembles

Project Grant $1,000 to $10,000

The NFA Project Grant supports project related costs that allow the artist(s) increased time to research and develop ideas or new works.

  • Support creation, development & presentation of work;
  • Purchase equipment necessary for artistic production;
  • Project research and travel; or
  • Professional or career development.

Fellowship $1,000 to $5,000

The NFA Fellowship supports artists whose work demonstrates excellence and the potential for impacting the Latino arts field. The Fellowship is designed to recognize excellence in an artist’s body of work and nurture the creative development of an artist.

  • Fellowships do not require matching funds.
  • Supports costs for the creation of new work, travel, study, professional development, living expenses, equipment, hiring of assistants, collaborations, documentation, production expenses and maintenance.

Master Artist Grant $10,000 to $20,000

The NFA Master Artist Grant is a grant program created to recognize established Latino artists for their cultural contributions and significance in their communities and also to provide support that enables the Master Artist to serve as a mentor to another artist in their professional and artistic development.

  • Supports exemplary mentormentee project that enables knowledge and skill transfer between a Master artist and a mentee artist.
  • Percentage of awarded funds must be used to provide a small grant to the mentee artist.
