You can now find the AFS “Notable Folklorists of Color” exhibit online. The exhibit, curated by Dr. Phyllis M. May-Machunda and Dr. Olivia Cadaval, highlights 25 scholars of color, "ancestors" whose significant contributions expanded research in folkloristics and laid a foundation for folkloristic work by people of color in communities of color. This collection originated as an exhibit that was first shown at the 2019 Annual Meeting to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the AFS Cultural Diversity Committee (CDC).

The exhibit can now reach a wider, digital audience, thanks to the support of the AFS Executive Board, and the support of the CDC and the AFS Fellows.

The first phase of the exhibit focused on the work of ancestors who had strong ties to AFS and worked primarily in the U.S. We look forward to growing this collection over time. Comments and suggestions are welcome at
