The Spring 2020 issue of the Journal of American Folklore, a special issue entitled “Dwelling in Craft,” will land in your mailboxes soon. The editors are excited to present readers with this special issue, which grew out of pre-organized panels at the at the 13th Congress of the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF) in Göttingen, Germany, March 26-30, 2017.

The editors solicited the papers included in this issue in hopes of encouraging further dialogue between scholars approaching craft across continents. The issue, guest edited by Viveka Torell and Anneli Palmskӧld (University of Gothenburg), includes articles on wide-ranging topics, all grounded in ethnographic fieldwork—from handspinning in the US (Mathilde Frances Lind), knitting in Australia (Lydia Maria Arantes), and Wounaan women’s basketry (Laura Osorio Iregui), to craft practices in a precarious urban environment (Magdalena Buchczyk) and craft as performed in a ceramics factory in Poland (Ewa Klekot). The issue also includes numerous book, film, and exhibit reviews.

Be sure to visit the AFS website for information about how to submit your work to the incoming editorial team.
