AFS 2020 Annual Meeting COVID-19 Update

The COVID-19 epidemic has created far-reaching uncertainty and concern, making it almost impossible for anyone to make definite plans for the future.

Nevertheless, the AFS staff and Executive Board are continuing to plan for the 2020 Annual Meeting in Tulsa in the hopes that conditions will change sufficiently to allow us to gather there October 14-17.  Our local arrangements team is hard at work, creating a truly inspiring and timely program. Based on our current information, we plan to hold the Annual Meeting as scheduled, and to maintain the general March 31 proposal deadline that allows us the time we need to prepare for the meeting.

We encourage you to proceed with your meeting plans as usual too, including organizing panels, presentations and other special events. If you register now and decide later not to attend due to COVID-19 concerns, we will refund your conference registration in full. Likewise, we will refund registration for international participants who may be barred from entering the US when the conference takes place. For now, we ask that you hold off on making nonrefundable travel arrangements.

Rest assured that AFS staff and the Executive Board are monitoring this situation closely and exploring contingencies should the need arise. We strongly encourage all travelers to stay vigilant and follow the travel recommendations from the CDC.

If you have questions as you plan your meeting participation or require an extension of the proposal deadline, please contact our offices by email or phone at and/or 812/856-2379.

If the situation changes, we will contact registrants and post new information on the 2020 Annual Meeting page.

Please stay safe during this difficult time.
