The Winter 2020 issue of the Journal of American Folklore will be landing in your mailboxes any day, and it can be accessed online by those with access to JSTOR. This issue includes articles on wide-ranging topics—from humor in medical contexts (Lisa Gabbert) and folklore collection in nineteenth-century Croatia (Dorian Jurić), to ethnographic fieldwork in Southern California Botánicas (Michael Owen Jones), and a Note proposing a framework for thinking about “cultural sustainability” (Michael Mason and Rory Turner). The issue also includes numerous reviews of books, sound, and exhibits as well as obituaries dedicated to two esteemed colleagues whose loss we all feel heavily: Barre Toelken and Burt H. Feintuch. This issue kicks off the final year for the editorial team based at Western Kentucky University. Be sure to visit the AFS website for information about how to submit your work to the incoming editorial team.
