Lisa Gilman (George Mason University) is taking over as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of American Folklore on November 15, 2019

The incoming editors’ priority is first and foremost to maintain consistency and a high standard of excellence. Gilman’s vision for the journal is to:

  • Encourage the publication of scholarship that challenges the “cannon” of U.S folklorists.
  • Organize convenings that bring together small groups of folklorists to engage in strategic thinking about the value of folkloristics and to strengthen folklore’s presence in public and academic institutions.
  • Create innovative mechanisms to raise the visibility of folklore scholarship outside American Folklore Society by inspiring dialog between folklorists and those in allied fields within the publication.

An outstanding editorial team will collaboratively produce the journal through 2023.
