AFS Long Range Planning to Continue in 2020

An ad hoc committee will work this winter to present a Long Range Plan for Executive Board approval in 2020.

Crucial planning discussions at the October 2019 Board meeting were derailed by the immediate threat of a labor dispute at the conference hotel, necessitating a longer horizon to finalize the long-range plan. The Board has therefore voted to include all members of the 2019 Executive Board in the ongoing planning, since their input has been and will continue to be critical to the process. Thus, the ad hoc committee will include Wanda Addison, Olivia Cadaval and Phyllis May-Machunda, whose terms on the Board conclude at the end of the 2019, as well as members of the Nominating Committee, Cultural Diversity Committee and the Publications Committee who are yet to be named.

This framework corrects a parliamentary mistake at the 2019 AFS Business Meeting which both meets the Board’s goals and upholds the AFS bylaws.
