The Program in Agrarian Studies at Yale fosters the interdisciplinary study of agrarian societies, historically and across the world. The program aims to be the crossroads for the best work in the humanities, the social sciences, environmental studies, and related professional fields that breathes new life into the study of farmers, agriculture, and rural society and captures the texture of lived experience as well contributing to theoretical and conceptual advances.

The Agrarian Studies Program appoints three fellows annually, chosen for the promise of their research; they are in residence for the year, present a paper, and attend the weekly colloquium. Emerging as well as established scholars are encouraged to apply. The program also accepts applications from knowledgeable “activists” and “public intellectuals” whose work on rural life transcends the academy.

Graduate students who are working on their PhD may apply, but fellowship recipients must have completed their PhD dissertations and present proof that they have received their PhD degree(s). Fellows are expected to be in residence in New Haven to take an active part in the intellectual exchange with other members of the program.

The application for the 2020-2021 post-doctoral search is open. The due date for applications is Monday, January 6, 2020 at midnight EST. To apply, visit Interfolio.

First-stage applications require a two-page proposal and a two-page CV. If more is submitted the selection committee will only read the first two pages of each of these two documents. Applicants short-listed for the second-stage will be asked to send no more than 25 pages of a writing sample and two letters from their referees.
