2019 Meeting Program Available Online with New Improvements

Does the program book weigh you down? Go digital with the 2019 Annual Meeting Online Program, which can be accessed using any web-browser on any device, including desktop or laptop computers, tablets, or phones. Yes, the conference venue offers free wifi in the meeting space.

Here’s a plus: you can connect the program to the calendar of your choice (Google, Outlook, iPhone, etc.); look for links on each program event to “add this event to your calendar.” Remember, though, that once an event is copied to your calendar, it will not be automatically updated if any changes are made in the online program, so it is still important to check the addendum for last-minute withdrawals or changes.

This resource provides full meeting information at your fingertips, including the full schedule with links to session and event details, as well as individual presenter and paper information. It has a search feature, as well as keyword, presenter, and event indexes to help you find the information you need. The keyword and presenter indexes are fully linked to the program.

The online program will be kept up to date throughout the meeting with last-minute changes or withdrawals. Because all program changes are integrated directly and immediately into the online program, it is only necessary to check the online program addendum if you’d like a summary of announcements and program changes.

AFS staff appreciates the feedback that participants provided on the beta version of the online program at the 2018 annual meeting, and have implemented changes visible and invisible (but important for program management) for the 2019 annual meeting. In our testing, we have observed some variability in performance across different devices, browsers, and operating systems; if you encounter any issues or have questions, please contact AmericanFolkloreSociety@gmail.com and provide as many details as possible about your experience.

This program, and the program data management system behind it, were custom built for our purposes by AFS Membership Director Meredith McGriff, who has additional ideas about improvements that could be made in future years. Please visit the Feedback link at the bottom of the online program's homepage to give us your thoughts.

Still like the book? Pick yours up when you check in at registration. Or use the hybrid: read the pdf of the program book. Bear in mind that the book represents the program through September 1, so it is important to check for  subsequent changes or announcements on the program addendum.

Miss the app? Give this a try before you decide. The online program has all the functionality of the app, without the redundancy of a duplicate system. Then, please share your experience with us; specifics about any differences you notice will help us as we work on future improvements.
