The 2020 Modern Language Association Convention will take place in Seattle, Washington, from January 9–12. The theme for the next Convention is “Being Human.” AFS@MLA invites proposals for papers on a panel entitled "Being Folk" that explore how folklore studies humanizes many cultural processes, especially those dealing with texts and their contexts. The organizers are particularly interested in papers that demonstrate the vitality and strength of the discipline, especially in those ways that emphasize the expanded cultural/literary record that folkloristics as a discipline seeks to document and understand. Because this is a session sponsored by the American Folklore Society, organizers are especially interested in proposals from AFS members. Send a 300-word abstract and brief CV to Jim Deutsch, deutschj@si.edu, by March 18, 2019.
