Folklore Signage Program Seeks Grant Evaluators

The William G. Pomeroy Foundation, a grant-making foundation based in Syracuse, New York, offers a fully funded roadside marker grant program helping communities celebrate folklore unique to their region. The Foundation is expanding Legends & Lore nationwide, and invites folklore professionals, along with their organizations and academic departments across the United States, to become grant evaluators for the program. The Legends & Lore marker program is focused on promoting cultural tourism and commemorating legends and folklore as an important part of every community’s cultural heritage. Legends & Lore was established in partnership with the New York Folklore Society in 2015.

Responsibilities

Grant evaluators will review online grant application materials submitted to the Pomeroy Foundation for Legends & Lore markers. Responsibilities include confirming the legitimacy and accuracy of folklore and legends that applicants intend to commemorate on a marker. The application review process includes ensuring the proposed text of each marker is well-written and conforms to inscription guidelines, and if not, the grant evaluator will propose suggested edits. Grant evaluators will recommend whether or not the grant application should move forward during the respective grant round. Additionally, grant evaluators will be responsible for promoting the program within their state in order to generate grant applications.

Benefits and Eligibility

The Pomeroy Foundation will provide financial contributions to participating organizations. Each Legends & Lore marker approved by an evaluator will include the name of their organization or academic institution/department. Grant evaluators should be a representative of a 501(c)(3) organization, municipality or academic institution.

How to Apply

If you and your organization would like to help raise folklore awareness in your state as a Legends & Lore grant evaluator, let the Pomeroy Foundation know by calling 315-913-4060 or by emailing deryn@wgpfoundation.org.
