On April 14–17, 2019, the 14th international SIEF congress invites you to Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain and the destination of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), one of the most important pilgrimage routes from medieval times. There could be no better place than Santiago de Compostela to host a conference for those well versed in the science and art of observing and analyzing human tracks—ethnologists, folklorists, anthropologists and other trackers of culture. The congress' theme “Track Changes: Reflecting on a Transforming World” draws upon both the ethnological explorations of human life and its continual change as well as the transforming, yet constant, Camino.

The call for panels, roundtables, workshops and combined formats is now open and will close on June 18, 2018. The call for posters and papers will open on August 14, 2018.

All panels have to be proposed online (see the proposal button under the rules below). SIEF does not accept proposals made via email.

Proposals must consist of:

  • a panel title (NB please note that if you are proposing an alternative format panel, and/or your panel has a SIEF working group affiliation, you MUST state these in the panel title—see further explanations below)
  • names and email addresses of the (two) panel convenors
  • a short abstract of <300 characters
  • long abstract of less than 250 words

The proposal may also include the names of any chairs or discussants, although these can be added subsequently using the login environment—please use the convention of Firstname Lastname (Institution). If these roles are to be taken by conveners, then please do not enter your own names there, as it is implicit that this will be the case where other names are not listed.
