Tom Paley, 1928–2017

Tom Paley, a forerunner of the American folk music revival of the 1950s/60s and an influential musician throughout his life, has died at the age of 89.

His numerous recorded works include Folk Songs From the Southern Appalachian Mountains (1952); Shivaree! (1955) with Jean Ritchie, Oscar Brand, and Harry and Jeanie West; Courtin's A Pleasure (1955) with Jean Ritchie and Oscar Brand; eleven albums between 1958 and 1963 as part of the New Lost City Ramblers, to name just a few. 

The New York Times and The Guardian each published an obituary in their October 2, 2017 issues.
