Smithsonian's Summer Institute in Museum Anthropology Taking Applications

The Summer Institute in Museum Anthropology (SIMA), supported by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Science Foundation, is accepting applications for its 2015 program in Washington, DC. SIMA is a four-week graduate student training program in museum research methods offered through the Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. Shared furnished housing and a small stipend to cover basic living expenses are provided. For more information and to apply, please visit The application deadline is March 1, 2015, and the program will run from June 22 through July 17. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact SIMA to discuss potential project ideas while in the process of preparing their materials.

New for 2015–17: SIMA will accept faculty fellows to develop courses in museum anthropology. These residencies will be available during the 2015, 2016, and 2017 program years to faculty members who will offer their new courses (listed or cross listed) in an anthropology department during the following school year.
