The website of the American Folklore Society provides private webspace for online groups.

  • AFS Sections and Discussion Groups »

  • The American Folklore Society is home to almost 30 interest-group sections and discussion groups that serve as gathering places and forums within the Society for people with common interests in the field.

Sections are special-interest groups that have been recognized by the AFS Executive Board according to Article X of the AFS Bylaws. Many sections support their activities with the collection of annual dues, but some sections do not.

Some sections and discussion groups serve primarily as conversation groups, and simply hold gatherings at the Society’s annual meeting where section members can share news about work in their areas of interest. Other are more active; many use their webpages here, and most organize annual meeting paper sessions or produce their own publications, or both. A few sections give prizes to recognize and encourage good work in their area(s) of interest.
