The Traditional Song Forum and the University of Sheffield present a one-day conference on the subject of folk and popular songs in tradition and on broadsides, chapbooks, songsters, and other cheap print media. This conference is free of charge, but a contribution towards refreshments is requested.

Book Launch
We will also be launching the new book edited by David Atkinson & Steve Roud, Street Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century: Producers, Sellers, Consumers published in October by Cambridge Scholars, which includes contributions by David Atkinson, David Stoker, Isabel Corfe, Vic Gammon, Iain Beavan, W. Wyn James, Jonathan Cooper, Ian Maxted, and Colin Bargery.

Software Demonstration
During the day, Colin Bargery will demonstrate the website package that he and Trevor Bennett are developing to contain and present Colin’s research into the way steam power was reported in broadside and traditional song. The package has potentially much wider application, and may well act as a template for other subject-related investigations into songs of the past.

The Humanities Research Institute conference facility is accessed from Gell Street. Trams to the University stop nearby. There is car parking on the road nearby, though you may prefer to use Sheffield’s excellent park and ride facilities.
