C . Network Report (Paddy Bowman)—Paddy Bowman of the Network for the Folk Arts in Education announced the Saturday program, Translations: Folk Arts Across the Curriculum /L’atelier annuel 14ème folklore dans l’enseignement K-12: Traductions: Perspectives du folklore dans le parcours scolaire. Paddy also distributed the current CARTS newsletter and announced a need for committee members for the workshop in Louisville. Paddy mentioned that she is currently revamping the CARTS Web site so everyone should send any updated information on resources, e-mails, and so forth to make it as up-to-date as possible.

II. Old Business

A
. Continuing discussion about increasing membership and awareness of section activities

Last year Sean Galvin and Alysia McLain sent a request to AFS to raise section dues to $10 following a vote at the 2006 section meeting. The information was submitted to AFS, but was accidentally left off of the renewal form. This has been corrected by the AFS main office and dues should now appear at $10 for the section.

The group in attendance discussed various ways of getting the word about to folks about joining the section without being an AFS member. (i.e., for teachers, etc.) . Anne Pryor offered to send a welcome letter to all new section members. Sean Galvin and Alysia McLain agreed to check with Tim Lloyd about the possibility of obtaining that information. Anne Pryor suggested that we target Boise, ID beginning in February- March, 2008 to find local teachers who wish to participate.

Lisa Falk suggested that we offer professional development hours for the Saturday Workshop. Paddy Bowman explained that usually this is possible, but given the difficulties of the international location of this year’s meeting that was not possible.

Maida Owens has agreed to write a brief article for the Folklore & Ed section in the AFS newsletter due Nov. 1st, 2007 to talk about the resources that are found within the section – other models, resources, contacts, etc. discussion about membership, need to increase dues, how to recover lost members? Ideas suggested were as follows:

B . Awards

Sean announced the 2007 Dorothy Howard Award. The Award recipient was "Quilting Circles, Learning Communities," submitted by Anne Pryor of the Wisconsin Arts Board. Second Place recipient was the Florida Folklife Program’s online resource at http://www.folkvine.org. Honorable Mention was "Bullfrog Jumped: Children’s Folksongs from the Byron Arnold Collection," submitted by Joey Brackner from the Alabama Center for Traditional Culture. Alysia McLain will request a check from Tim Lloyd for "Quilting Circles, Learning Communities."

Alysia McLain explained that the Robinson Roeder Ward Award was not offered this year due to the international conference and not having established relations with local teachers.
