II.
Old Business
A. discussion about
membership, need to increase dues, how to recover lost members?
Ideas suggested were as follows:
i. Check-off box on AFS member renewal form does not reach teachers
& non-AFS members.
ii. We have gotten away from grad students coming who want to learn
how/what to teach. [N.B. A rep from the grad students section attended
and promised to report back to them]
iii. A column in the public programs newsletter wouldn’t work
because of publore [SG: I read this now, but don’t remember
why this statement might be true]
iv. Discussion to increase dues from $7 to $10 (Gwen motion, Betty
2nd)-passed unanimously
B. Action Plan
i. Betty will put something in the AFS newsletter
ii. Newsletter will include blurb about membership
iii. Grad student will report back to section
iv. Paddy will check up w/Terry Liu (NEA) and TAP.net
v. AFC will post a notice about membership
vi. Those who work with teachers can disseminate newsletter asking
teachers to join
vii. Public Program section auction is possibility (N.B. need to
remind members to bring items to auction)
C. Awards
i. Robinson-Roeder-Ward Fellowship recipient for 2006 was Mark Wagler
(thanks to Alysia, Betty Anne); unable to attend AFS, so Kristin
Larsen accepted fellowship and will be participating in Saturday
workshop
