Approximately every five years since 2002, the American Folklore Society has surveyed its members to gather demographic and opinion data that index the state of the Society and field, and to inform the Executive Board as it considers actions to support AFS, its members, and the field of folklore studies.

526 members responded to the 2016 survey, continuing the pattern of increased participation in each successive AFS member survey (2002: 257 participants; 2006: 315; 2011: 410). The Executive Board would like to express its gratitude to all who responded for their support of our field and Society.
