|AFS 2011 Election Introduction|
The AFS Nominating Committee (Suzi Seriff, University of Texas at Austin, chair; Christina Barr, Nevada Humanities; Amy Skillman, independent folklorist, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Steven Winick, American Folklife Center, Library of Congress) is beginning its discussions toward the formation of a slate of candidates for the 2011 AFS election. They invite your recommendation of possible candidates.
In this year's balloting, members will elect three people to three-year terms on the Executive Board that governs AFS. The three members leaving the Board at the end of 2011 will be Amy Shuman, Amy Skillman, and Bill Westerman. Members will also elect one person to a three-year term on the Nominating Commit! tee, replacing Seriff.
If you have recommendations of Society members whom the Committee should consider as candidates, please send them to Seriff at email@example.com by April 1.
The Committee will present its slate of candidates by August 1, after which members will have the opportunity to add candidates to the slate by petition. We will invite all candidates to participate in a Candidates' Forum at this October's annual meeting in Bloomington. Secure online voting will begin on November 1 and will continue until the end of the year. Those elected will take office in January 2012.
