Changing Your Own Profile Preferences Can Make the Member Directory Easier to Use

AFS members can use the Member Directory to find registered members, one or many, by name or by attribute. However, the effectiveness of the Directory depends in large part on the efforts of individual members to keep their profiles up to date and complete.
First, use Edit Bio under Manage Profile in your Profile menu to make sure that your Profile best represents you.
Then, to make sure that your contact information comes first, check your Profile Preferences -- and while you're at it, you can make sure that you receive only the alerts from the website that you want to receive.
Individuals' user settings affect what displays in the Member Directory search results; many AFS members' profiles are set to default to their "wall," instead of their "bio," which contains their contact and profile information. The wall shows only automatically generated information about the site activity of the member or the members' connections.
If you see that wall instead of contact information when you are searching for someone, try clicking on the "bio" tab instead to get the information you seek. If your own profile defaults to the wall, sign in, go to Preferences under Manage Profile in your Profile menu, and untick the last item in the list, "Turn on my wall."
See FAQ/Membership/Member Directory for help with searching.
