Women’s and Gender Studies Department
The Dorothy Haecker Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship

The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Missouri seeks a scholar specializing in Women’s and Gender Studies or a closely related discipline to apply for the Dorothy Haecker Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship. We are looking to a national pool to find candidates with demonstrated research and teaching abilities in Women’s and Gender Studies. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research and teaching focuses on one or more of the following areas: Youth Studies, Masculinity Studies, Native Studies, Asian Studies, and/or Disability Studies.

This year-long post-doc fellowship provides scholars at the beginning of their academic career a year in which they can prepare their dissertation for publication, pursue research projects, gain experience teaching advanced undergraduate courses, and participate in the University of Missouri Women’s and Gender Studies scholarly community. Fellows will have a 1/1 teaching load with at least one course related to their research project.

This appointment is for one year; we anticipate that it will be non-renewable. Applicants must have their doctoral degree in hand no later than the start date of the position (August, 2011) and no earlier than August, 2006. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to be in residence during the term of the post-doc. We offer a competitive salary of $40,000 annually with full benefits.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Department at MU is experiencing an exciting period of growth. The department made three new hires in the past year and has existing research strengths in areas of sexuality studies, health and health disparities, global and transnational feminism, and U.S. race/ethnicity.

To apply, submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a list of three references, a publication and/or writing sample, and a sample or previously taught syllabi and/or course proposals to: Joan Hermsen, Director of Search Committee, Women’s and Gender Studies Department, 325 Strickland Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia MO 65211 USA.

The review of applications will begin February 21, 2011.
