Voting on the proposed amendment to the AFS Bylaws--to make the Society's Cultural Diversity Task Force into a standing (permanent) committee--concluded on June 30. For a proposed amendment to be approved, the Bylaws require that 2/3 of the votes cast be in favor of it. The amendment was approved: 185 members cast votes in favor of the amendment, and 12 members cast votes against it.

The section of the Bylaws describing the composition and responsibilities of this committee reads as follows:

The Cultural Diversity Committee shall:

(a) Consist of at least five members appointed by the President from the membership with the advice and consent of the Executive Board, and one member appointed by the President from the Executive Board, for staggered three-year terms;

(b) Undertake research and other activities regarding priorities and strategies to diversify the Society's membership and to keep the Society engaged with diverse communities, and, based on those activities, recommend policies and actions to the Executive Board.
