The 2018 Pennsylvania Folklore Symposium will bring together academic and public sector folklorists and students from across the state and region in order to highlight the achievements and issues in the field of folklore, and open a discussion on how to better collaborate and coordinate between institutions and with artists, participants, and creators.

The symposium will also mark the relaunch of Penn State’s Center for Pennsylvania Culture Studies as the Pennsylvania Center for Folklore. It will celebrate the Center’s achievements in the documentation and appreciation of Pennsylvania’s significant cultural heritage, and to mark its refined and expanded mission to study and educate about folklore across the state, region, and nation.

Presentation sessions at this meeting are organized by the sponsoring institutions and there are no open panel sessions to apply for. However, all are welcome to attend and participate! The program will also include film screenings, a local tour, and public lectures.

Taking place May 17–19, 2018 at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg, this symposium is hosted by the Pennsylvania Center for Folklore and sponsored by the PACF, Folk Art PA/Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Middle Atlantic Folklife Association.

Registration fee includes most meals. Affordable on-campus lodgings available.
