Peter Bartis, 1949–2017

Peter Bartis, a longterm staff member of the American Folklife Center and a respected public folklorist, has died at the age of 68.

His major accomplishments include writing the immensely successful Folklife and Fieldwork (1979) manual for the Center, coordinating the AFC Local Legacies project from 1999-2000, leading the Veterans History Project from 2001-2008, and spearheading the Center's participation in The Library of Congress Celebrates the Songs of America collection.

An obituary by Stephen Winnick was published on the Library of Congress website on December 29, 2017.
