California State University Seeks Assistant/Associate Professor of Latin American Studies

The Department of Pan-African Studies and the Latin American Studies Program at California State University, Los Angeles invite applications for the position of Joint Assistant/Associate Professor of Latin American Studies with specialization in Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas, to begin August 16, 2018.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Ph.D. in a field of the Social Sciences or Humanities closely-related to Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas, including Pan-African/Africana/Black Studies, Latin American Studies, Chicano/a/Latino/a Studies, Comparative Literature, Ethnomusicology, Economics, History, Sociology, Political Science, and Women/Gender Studies is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/16/2018).
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and demonstrated experience teaching classes in the area of Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas;
  • Evidence of academic scholarship in the area of Afro-Latino / Afro-Caribbean Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas. Evidence includes any of the following: books, scholarly journal articles, chapters, or grant-based monographs, and;
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students.
