City Lore is pleased to be sponsoring Becoming American: A Documentary Film and Discussion Series on Our Immigration Experience, a six-week public program designed to encourage an informed and open discussion of today’s immigration issues in the context of the nation's rich immigration history. Funded by a major grant by the NEH, the project is now accepting applications (deadline: December 1) from nonprofits who wish to host the project.

This project provides participating organizations with DVDs of carefully selected, compelling documentary films; discussion guidelines; original essays by eminent immigration scholars; extensive resource guides; and web support including training in how to organize, promote and run the series successfully. In addition, each of the thirty-two nonprofit organizations selected to implement Becoming American will receive a cash award of $1,300 for project expenses.

Detailed information about the project as well as application instructions are available on the project website (www.becoming-american.org). The application deadline is December 1, 2017 and the program is scheduled to run during a six-week period of your choice sometime between June 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the project at becoming-american@citylore.org or 212-529-1955 x13.
