Over the past 18 years, Mass Cultural Council field research has targeted ethnic communities, geographic regions, artistic genres, and occupational traditions across the state. The Council has documented, supported, and raised visibility for dozens of traditional artists and keepers of tradition. There are, however, many communities in the state in which the Council has not done any significant field research.

Mass Cultural Council seeks to contract with a field researcher to conduct a folklife field survey and documentation of expressive traditions within one of two ethnic communities:

  • Chinese Americans in Boston, Quincy, Randolph, Malden, and Lynn: fluency in Mandarin required; fluency in Cantonese a plus
  • Vietnamese Americans in Dorchester, Quincy, Malden, Everett, Lynn, Randolph, and Worcester: Fluency in Vietnamese required
