The Ethnomusicology graduate program at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is now accepting applications for entrance in Fall 2018 (application deadline January 10, 2018). This interdisciplinary program takes advantage of the resources of both the School of Music and the Department of Folklore. Students benefit from Memorial’s advantageous tuition and funding, resulting in a vibrant, international student body. Both the MA and PhD programs are ideal for students who wish to work in a critical, interdisciplinary environment where music and sound are examined for the ways they shape culture and impact lives. Housed at the Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media and Place Research Centre and directed by Dr. Harris Berger, Ethnomusicology at Memorial provides students with rich opportunities for professional development and research experience. The faculty at Memorial is proud to announce that alumnus Dr. Leila Qashu (PhD 2016) has been awarded the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies Distinguished Dissertation Award for her work on Arsi Oromo women’s restorative justice and song in Ethiopia: https://gazette.mun.ca/research/breaking-new-ground/.
