Northeastern University Seeks Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology

Northeastern University is seeking an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Ethnomusicology, with a background and research interest in music of the African diaspora, Jazz, Improvisation (across genres, cultures and media), and musical traditions around the globe, engaged from a broadly ethnographic and cross-disciplinary perspective. The new faculty member will be asked to provide innovation and leadership in adding new course material to our curriculum and to teach topics that may include (but are not limited to) the history and practice of jazz, jazz improvisation, improvisation across the arts, black popular music (including Hip Hop), global pop music, the urban musical communities (with a focus on Boston), and other courses that integrate ethnographic scholarship and experiential learning in a musical context. Candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education. The position has an anticipated start date of August 27, 2018.
