Annual Meeting attendees, here are some things you may find useful before you check in at registration in Minneapolis:

AFS Office Closed

Contact us now if you know you need assistance before you arrive! The AFS office will be closed Friday, October 13, through Wednesday, October 25, while the staff is away for the 2017 Annual Meeting. During that time, we will check email periodically, but may not be able to respond to all messages; we will begin to follow up on all inquiries when the office re-opens October 26.

Program Changes

Program withdrawals that come in after October 12, when we print the last of our program material, can be tracked on the online addendum linked to our meeting webpage; the direct link is http://afsnet.org/page/AM17Addendum. This is important information, because all subsequent presentations shift to fill the gap when a paper is withdrawn.

Meeting News

We will post all new information as it arises to our 2017 Annual Meeting page and/or to the AFS Review. Look, in particular, for:

  • The online Program Addendum, which will include even the last-minute withdrawals that come in after the Addendum insert is printed for distribution with the program book.
  • 2017 Annual Meeting in the AFS Review, which rounds up all the meeting-related news that has appeared in the AFS Review this year.
  • Guides to selected panels and events that have been prepared by AFS Sections and interest groups and posted to “Notes” in the AFS Review.

Weather

During the Monday, October 16-Sunday, October 22 week, the Minneapolis weather forecast calls for high temperatures of around 64 F (18 C) and low temperatures of around 50 F (10 C). The humidity will be around 60% all week. The greatest chance of rain (30%) will be on Saturday the 21st in the afternoon and evening.

Transportation between the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Marriott City Center Hotel

Go Minneapolis provides general information for visitors; they have also prepared an AFS Visitors' Guide that provides useful links, including information about transportation from and to the airport and getting around the Twin Cities.

SuperShuttle is offering a discount on shuttle reservations for AFS attendees traveling from the airport to the Marriott, one-way or round-trip.

The Minneapolis Marriott City Center Hotel is located at 30 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402; +1-612-349-4000; check-in is at 4:00 pm. Parking is available on-site for $26 USD daily; valet parking for $40 USD daily. Meeting attendees will receive complimentary internet in their guest rooms.

Local Information

We encourage you to visit the local information page on the AFS web site (www.afsnet.org/?page=AM17LocalInfo) before you come to Minneapolis. It contains links to sources for local information, including the local meeting committee’s very informative Guide to Minneapolis, which you can download from that web page.

Meeting Registration

The AFS meeting registration desk will be located in the Atrium on the fourth floor of the Minneapolis Marriott City Center. Registration hours are 2:00–5:00 pm on Wednesday, 7:30 am–2:30 pm on Thursday and Friday, and 7:30 am– 12:00 noon on Saturday.
