We are curating the second AFS pop-up museum, this year on the theme of “Artifacts and Stories of Protest,” at the 2017 American Folklore Society meeting in Minneapolis. Participants Vanessa Navarro, Rossina Zamora and Bonnie Sunstein are formally committed to the session, but we want to open up the exhibit to all who wish to share an item and a story, in the true spirit of pop-up culture.

To participate in this interactive forum, bring an artifact from an experience you have had with any protest that has been especially meaningful to you (or, a photo or illustration of one if the actual artifact is too large or fragile to bring); please also let us know now so we can plan for set-up. If you would rather just observe and interact with those who bring items to share, please mark your calendar for 2-4 pm on Thursday, October 19 in the Atrium—stop by and bring a friend!

If you would like to know more about pop-up museums and get ideas for writing a label and displaying your item should you wish to bring one, see the description and other useful information at: http://popupmuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Pop-Up-Museum-Edited.pdf

Please direct questions to the curators:
